IT BEGINS: Protesters in Portland Topple Thomas Jefferson Monument, Smash Statue with Hammer

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.15.20

Protesters in Portland toppled a memorial honoring Founding Father and author of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson; toppling the monument and smashing the statue with a hammer as onlookers cheered.

“Thomas Jefferson Statue toppled in Portland,” posted the Daily Caller on social media.

Seattle’s embattled Police Chief had an “epiphany” over the weekend after attending George Floyd protests; saying “policing will never be the same.”

“I was looking at the 60,000 people that were there, signs saying, you know, defund the police, stop police brutality, you know, no qualified immunity. And there were thousands of people carrying those particular signs,” said Chief Carmen Best.

“And I just realized it was a moment, an epiphany, that this is a pivotal moment in history. We are going to move in a different direction and policing will never be the same as it was before,” she added.

“We need to re-imagine and re-figure out how we’re going to move forward as a country and as an organization to make things better for everybody,” she said during the interview with “Face the Nation.”

CAMPUS REVOLT: New York Students Demand Removal of ‘Racist’ Thomas Jefferson Statue

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.02.19

Student activists from Long Island’s Hofstra University -the site of former presidential debates- demanded the removal of a Thomas Jefferson statue over the weekend; saying the founding father’s memorial represents “racism and slavery.”

Students participated Friday in the second annual ‘Jefferson Has Gotta Go!’ event over the statue that has been subject to protests and acts of vandalism in the past, with some previously defacing it with ‘DECOLONIZE’ and ‘Black Lives Matter’ slogans,” reports Fox News.

“Jefferson’s values aided in the construction of institutionalized racism and justified the subjugation of black people in the United States,” the petition read. “Jefferson has been embraced as an icon by white supremacist and neo-nazi organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and online white supremacist chat rooms.”

“Yes, the removal of the statue is important, but it is about what the statue represents: a legacy of racism and bigotry on college campuses,” added one activist.

REPORT: Charlottesville, VA -Hometown of Thomas Jefferson- Will No Longer Celebrate His Birthday

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.03.19

Thomas Jefferson’s hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia will no longer celebrate the Founding Father’s birthday; citing his long-known history of owning slaves throughout his life.

“City officials voted to scrap the holiday in honor of the slave-owning third president of the United States and instead adopted Liberation and Freedom Day, to be celebrated each March 3. The holiday commemorates the day U.S. Army forces arrived in Virginia in 1865, near the end of the Civil War, the Washington Times reported,” reports Fox News.

“The city council’s decision came just days after James Fields Jr., the 22-year-old driver convicted of killing a woman and injuring dozens of other people at the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville in 2017, was sentenced to life behind bars,” adds Fox.

“The vote to end the Jefferson holiday is just the latest of several setbacks for the Founding Father’s legacy in recent months,” concludes the report. “In March, some students at Hofstra University near New York City called for the removal of a Jefferson statue from the campus, claiming Jefferson represents racism and slavery.”
