HOMETOWN HEROES: DeSantis Pledges $100M to Help FLA Police, Nurses, Teachers Buy First Home

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a $100 million dollar initiative to help Florida’s first responders —and more—buy their first home in the Sunshine State; it’s called the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program.

“The new initiative will be available to state law enforcement officers, firefighters, educators, healthcare professionals, childcare employees, and active military or veterans as part of the $100 million program,” The Daily Wire reports.

“In Florida, we value the contributions of our police, firefighters, teachers, and nurses,” DeSantis said on Monday.

“Our hometown heroes are the backbone of Florida communities and making sure that they can afford to be homeowners is a great way to give back to them and support the future of the American Dream,” he added.

“If they want to recruit a police officer to work, say, for Cape Coral Police Department, it really matters if they can afford to have a home here and live in the community and shop in the same stores, to go to (grocery stores) and see everybody,” DeSantis said.

“We’re extremely grateful to the front line workers who have remained committed to their communities during these challenging times, many of whom must drive long hours to work because they can’t afford to live in the same town that they work so hard to serve and protect,” Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC) Executive Director Trey Price said. “By helping these individuals bridge the financial gap to homeownership, they’ll finally be able to achieve the American Dream for their families.”
