Firebrand Senator and potential 2020 hopeful Kamala Harris unveiled her plan Monday to drastically increase tax credits to help subsidize those who are unable to pay their rent, according to the Washington Post.
The new scheme -set to be officially announced Thursday- would allocate over $13.3 million in federal subsidies to provide tax credits to help certain families pay their housing costs.
“There’s much more interest now among Democratic lawmakers and representatives in high-cost areas about housing policy as more and more places fall into the high-cost bucket,” said one housing expert from the Brookings Institute.
The new program would allocate tax credits to those earning less than $100,000 a year and spend more than 30% of their net income on living expenses.
Harris’ proposal comes days after other liberal politicians -including former President Barack Obama and Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel- praised a potential “universal basic income” for America’s poor.

KAMALA 2020? Sen. Harris REFUSES TO ANSWER if She’ll Accept ‘Corporate Donations’
Democratic Senator and possible 2020 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris refused to answer questions about her future campaign financing; deflecting when asked whether she would accept political donations from large corporations.
Harris was speaking at a town hall event in California when she was asked for a “specific answer” over whether she would say “no thanks” to all political donations from large companies or corporate lobbyists.
“If a corporation or a corporate lobbyist wants to give you money for a campaign, will you tell them, ‘Thanks, but no thanks?’” asked one attendant.
“It depends” deflected Harris. “And that’s why we have rules that require that any donation that anyone receives needs to be disclosed.”
“So that you can do an assessment and the voters can do an assessment and look at where the contributions come from and make your decisions about whether those contributions have influenced the way that people act and the way that people vote,” she added.

KAMALA 2020? Sen. Harris Says She’s ‘NOT RULING OUT’ Run Against Trump
Liberal Senator and potential 2020 Democratic front-runner Kamala Harris raised eyebrows throughout Washington Monday, saying she wasn’t “ruling out” a possible run for the White House.
The liberal lawmaker was speaking with MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt when she was asked to comment on her political ambitions after the 2018 midterms, eventually admitting she was weighing a possible presidential bid against Donald Trump.
“Right now I’m focused on this. I’m focused on a lot of other things as a higher priority,” Harris said when asked about the 2020 race.
“But you’re not ruling it out?” Hunt pressed.
“I don’t know. I’m not ruling it out,” Harris admitted.
