A stunning new poll released by Gallup shows a majority of Democrats now prefer “socialism” to “capitalism,” signaling the shocking new direction of the party just months before American voters head to the polls.
The survey finds that “for the first time in Gallup’s measurement over the past decade, Democrats have a more positive image of socialism than they do of capitalism.”
Just eight years ago, 53% of those asked said they held a positive view of socialism. That number rose to 57% in 2018. Those numbers widened when liberal voters were questioned over their views of capitalism, with just 47% viewing it favorably in 2018.
“Perhaps most telling, the sharpest drop in Democratic support for capitalism is recent. In 2016, capitalism was viewed positively by 56% of those leaning Democrat. In 2018, that number dropped to 47%. That is a drop of 9% of Democrats who view capitalism positively in just the last two years,” writes the Daily Caller.
The surprising survey comes as a string of Democratic candidates, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, espouse massive government programs; including universal healthcare, a guaranteed basic income, free college, and public housing.

McCain attempted to educate comedian Joy Behar on the dangers of socialism, citing Venezuela as the latest example of the true effects socialist principles have on a once-healthy economy.
“This makes my head explode, which, by the way, I hope Democrats do run a Democratic Socialist because I think you’ll fail spectacularly and then I’ll look forward to election night when I finally get to tell everyone ‘I told you so’ if you end up running a radical,” McCain said.
“The problem with socialism, in the words of Margaret Thatcher: ‘At a certain point you run out of spending other people’s money.’ Venezuela, one of the richest countries in the world in the 70s — now the average Venezuelan has lost 24 pounds because they’re starving to death,” she added. “Ninety percent of the country is living in poverty. This is what I need from her. Name one country where socialism has ever worked.”
