The United States reportedly blocked a controversial statement by the United Nations Security Council Tuesday that called for an independent investigation into the deaths of “Palestinian civilians” during “peaceful protests” over the US embassy opening.
According to Yahoo News, the initial draft of the resolution expressed “outrage and sorrow” over the deaths of “civilians exercising their right” to protest at the Israeli-Gaza border as the United States held opening ceremonies for its new embassy in the heart of Jerusalem.
“The Security Council expresses its outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians exercising their right to peaceful protest,” said an early draft of the statement.
“The Security Council calls for an independent and transparent investigation into these actions to ensure accountability,” added the resolution.

The White House blamed the mounting death toll on Hamas-linked terrorists, saying the organization was intentionally “provoking this response” to gain international attention.
“The responsibility for these tragic deaths rests squarely with Hamas,” Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said Monday. “Hamas is intentionally and cynically provoking this response. And as the Secretary of State said, Israel has the right to defend itself.”

HALEY UNCHAINED: Nikki Haley GRILLS Palestinian President at UN
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley grilled Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at a UN Security Council meeting Thursday, blasting the leader for bolstering “outrageous and discredited conspiracy theories” regarding Israel and the United States.
According to Fox News, Haley launched her attack on Abbas at a high-level meeting covering the Middle East peace process, slamming the Palestinian President for attempting to boot the US from negotiations with their Israeli counterparts.
“We will not accept for the U.S. to be a mediator, because after what they have done to us — a believer shall not be stung twice in the same place,” Abbas told the New York Times.
“He rejected any American role in peace talks. He insulted the American president. He called for suspending recognition of Israel,” said the UN Ambassador. “He invoked an ugly and fictional past, reaching back to the 17th century to paint Israel as a colonialist project engineered by European powers.”
“A speech that indulges in outrageous and discredited conspiracy theories is not the speech of a person with the courage and will to seek real peace,” she added.
HALEY UNCHAINED: Nikki Haley UNLOADS on Russia, Says US ‘WILL ACT’ in Syria
US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley unloaded on Russian officials Monday over their inability to rein in widespread violence across Syria; warning the Security Council the US is “prepared to act” to defend civilians in the war-torn nation.
“Sixteen days ago we sat around the negotiating table with our Security Council colleagues and we agreed to a thirty-day cease-fire in the brutal bombardment of civilians in Syria. The negotiations were long and difficult; every minute we delayed meant more innocent people were killed,” Haley told the UN.

“The Russian delegation stalled throughout the talks; they had conditions they insisted upon before they would allow the killing to stop,” she added. “Today we must ask whether Russia can no longer influence the Assad regime to stop the brutal destruction of hospitals, medical clinics, and ambulances.”
“If we can’t count on the members of the Council to honor their agreements we can’t accomplish anything. And if we can’t act when children are dying, we have no business being here,” Haley said. “If we can’t save families that haven’t seen sunlight for weeks because they’ve been hiding … then the Security Council is as impotent as its critics claim it is.”
