Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey are poised to reveal their ‘Green New Deal’ as early as next week; pulling back the curtains on the Democratic-Socialist’s highly-anticipated plan to move the US economy towards 100% renewable energy.
“A spokeswoman for Markey confirmed the offices are working on legislation, but said there is no final text and timing isn’t final yet for next week. A request to Ocasio-Cortez’s office wasn’t immediately returned. Varshini Prakash, co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, also said legislation is due as soon as Wednesday or Thursday of next week,” reports Axios.
While details of the plan remain unclear, prior versions of the bill call for the US to be totally reliant on renewable energy within a decade, a federal jobs guarantee program for all Americans, and a ‘Medicare for All’ system across the country.
