Boston Mayor Michelle Wu opened her Tuesday press conference with a live mariachi band before vowing to resist the Trump administration’s crackdown on the city’s sanctuary policies.
Wu’s outdoor event was held in response to a deadline from Attorney General Pam Bondi, who demanded the mayor pledge cooperation with federal immigration authorities and present a plan to dismantle Boston’s sanctuary laws.
Before launching her press conference, Wu allowed a band led by Veronica Robles — a musician and co-founder of the Veronica Robles Cultural Center — to play mariachi music for attendees.
“Early in the morning at the sunrise, everybody happy [sic], out for a long journey for work, loving and caring,” Robles said in English before launching into Spanish lyrics.
“Michelle Wu Mayor of Boston. Started the event with a Mariachi Band, celebrating how they’re going to subvert ICE arresting illegals in the city. Boston, you need to get some adults in charge,” one X account posted.
