Former Vice President and failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced she is writing a memoir titled “107 Days,” which will provide a “behind-the-scenes” look at her brief 2024 presidential campaign, described as the “shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” the New York Post reports. The book, scheduled for release on September 23 by Simon & Schuster, reflects on the 107 days she spent campaigning after stepping in as the Democratic nominee when Joe Biden abruptly withdrew from the race.
In a video announcement, Harris said she wrote the book with “candor and reflection,” hoping to share what she saw, learned, and “what it will take to move forward.” It is not clear if the memoir will contain any of her famous word salads.
“In writing this book, one truth kept coming back to me. Sometimes the fight takes a while, but I remain full of hope and I remain clear-eyed,” she said. “I will never stop to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals.”
It was initially reported that Harris initially gained momentum from a surge of positive media attention early in the race, with certain polls indicating she was ahead of Donald Trump. However, Harris became the first Democratic candidate in two decades to lose the popular vote. On Thursday, Harris described the 2024 race as “high-stakes and deeply personal” and shared that she had “spent a lot of time reflecting on those days.”
According to The Post, speculation about Harris authoring a campaign memoir had circulated for months, and CNN reported that the September 23 release of ‘107 Days’ influenced her decision to forgo running for governor of California.
“I love this state, its people and its promise,” she said in announcing her decision. “It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for governor in this election.”
Harris suggested that she will return to the limelight, however, stating, “I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.”
