CHAOS IN PARIS: French Capital ROCKED by Anti-Macron Protests, ‘Hundreds’ Arrested
The anti-Macron ‘Yellow Vest’ protests continued to rock the French capital Saturday, with hundreds arrested after countless demonstrators took to the streets of Paris in opposition to rising fuel prices and the skyrocketing cost-of-living across the country.
“A fourth weekend of antigovernment protests turned violent on Saturday, with demonstrators in Paris ripping down barricades from store fronts and setting vehicles on fire, while riot police fired tear gas and water cannons to control the crowds,” writes the New York Times.
“The so-called Yellow Vests descended on the capital by the thousands, even as the police turned out in force, blocking off roads and monuments and arresting more than 700 people, many before they could even reach the main site of the demonstrations along Paris’s main artery, the Champs-Élysées,” adds the article.
The protests -largely sparked by a scheduled increase in the already high ‘fuel tax’- has since morphed into a widespread, anti-Macron movement across France.
