DROPPING DRAG: House GOP Intros Bill to Prevent DOD From Funding Drag Shows [DETAILS]

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.06.23

According to an exclusive report from The Daily Caller, members of the Houe GOP have introduced a bill to prevent the DOD from funding drag shows for the U.S. Military.

Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale introduced legislation on Monday.

“Anything that does not help our troops be the most effective fighting force on earth is a distraction and a waste of resources,” Rosendale told the Caller before introducing the legislation.

The legislation is co-sponsored by Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN),  Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK), Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY), Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) and Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC).

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and his office have denied the use of federal funds and facilities to host drag shows of any kind. But according to Military.com, Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada had planned to host an all-ages drag show on June 1.

The show was canceled by Austin.

“Per DoD Joint Ethics Regulation (JER), certain criteria must be met for persons or organizations acting in non-federal capacity to use DoD facilities and equipment,” Defense Department spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in a statement to Military.com. “As Secretary Austin has said, the DoD will not host drag events at U.S. military installations or facilities. Hosting these types of events in federally funded facilities is inconsistent with regulations regarding the use of DoD resources.”
