DONOR REVOLT: Biden Faces $90 Million Funding Freeze Amid Calls to Step Down

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.12.24

The New York Times has reported on complete disarray within the Democratic party. Key donors are withholding $90 million in funding to the Democratic Party unless President Joe Biden withdraws from the 2024 presidential race. The funds, currently held by the major pro-Biden political action committee Future Forward, have been suspended as pressure mounts on Biden to step aside. According to sources cited by The New York Times, this move highlights growing concerns within the Democratic donor base about Biden’s viability as the party’s candidate.

Axios reported a “donor strike” where influential donors are shifting their contributions from Biden’s campaign to congressional races. The dissatisfaction among donors has been exacerbated by recent gaffes and a perceived decline in Biden’s public performances. The most notable incident occurred during a NATO press conference, where Biden mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”

Internal strife is not limited to donors. Some of Biden’s long-standing allies, including former President Barack Obama, are reportedly uneasy about Biden’s candidacy. Despite these concerns, Biden’s team has maintained a staunch defense of his campaign. Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech in Detroit tonight, where he plans to criticize his rival, Donald Trump, in the crucial battleground state of Michigan.

Amid the rising calls for him to step down, Biden remains resolute in his decision to run for re-election. During a pivotal NATO summit appearance, he reiterated his intent to run and win, despite concerns about his age and health following a challenging debate performance two weeks ago. However, a series of missteps, including the confusion over Harris’s title, continues to fuel doubts about his readiness for a second term.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met with Biden late Thursday, as the number of Democratic lawmakers urging Biden to step aside reached 20. Jeffries described the meeting as comprehensive and heartfelt but did not divulge specific details. The growing number of dissenting voices within the party underscores the internal debate over Biden’s future.

Despite the controversy, Biden received public support from prominent Democrats such as Representative James Clyburn and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Clyburn emphasized his unwavering support for Biden, citing Biden’s lifelong struggle with stuttering as a factor behind his occasional verbal slips. Newsom also expressed his full backing for Biden, dismissing any daylight between his position and the president’s.
