Incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called-out “fact-checkers” on social media Monday; saying “false equivalency” and “bias” impacts “how often” people are critiqued and why.
“Facts are facts, America. We should care about getting things right. Yet standards of who gets fact-checked, how often + why are unclear,” tweeted Cortez. “This is where false equivalency+bias creeps in, allowing climate deniers to be put on par w/scientists.”
“Thank you for sharing @washingtonpost’s rubric! Except the standard for ‘4 Pinocchios’ just says: ‘Whoppers.’ That’s it. ‘Whoppers.’ As an official fact checking standard. Cheeky, but really not okay to be held to a jokey standard when 45 is advancing conspiracy theories,” she added.

Fact-checking is critically important. It’s not always fun. But that’s okay! It pushes me to be better.
It’s important that if fact-checkers are referees, everyone know the rules – and those rules be as clear + fair as possible for all to play.
Thank you for the work you do. https://t.co/LGfd6pOReX

Cortez’ comments come hours after the self-described Democratic-Socialist was called-out by progressive comedian Whoopi Goldberg; telling the legislator to “sit down and learn the job.”
CORTEZ CONFUSION: Cortez Cites PARKS, ‘Eating Sandwiches’ as 'Examples of Socialism'
Liberal superstar Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez left American voters scratching their heads this week; bizarrely citing National Parks and eating breakfast sandwiches as examples of Democratic Socialism.
Cortez posted the strange comments on social media after returning from a “few days off” spent at Acadia National Park; citing the nature preserve and “supporting worker-owned businesses” as American “examples of Democratic Socialism.”
Back home after a lovely few days off enjoying US examples of Democratic Socialism, like:
– Acadia National Park
– Café Co-ops (Def Top 5 best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had 🍳)
– Supporting worker-owned businesses
– Bonus: Spotted a @PPact helping people, per usual✌🏽💜 pic.twitter.com/xmiYXutfpS— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 19, 2018
Cortez’ comments come just days after she came under fire for banning press and journalists from a series of town hall events; adding the speaking engagements were considered “sanctuary spaces.”
CORTEZ CONFUSION: Cortez Compares Herself to Franklin Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln
Newly sworn-in Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has high-hopes for her ‘Green New Deal’ project; directly comparing her “radical” program with similar initiatives by Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
Cortez was speaking with Anderson Cooper when he called-out the self-described Democratic Socialist for her “radical” agenda heading into the new congressional session.
“I think it has only ever been radicals who have changed this country. Abraham Lincoln made the radical decision to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the radical decision to embark on establishing programs like Social Security. That is radical,” said Cortez.
The incoming legislator found herself in hot-water just weeks ago after she directly compared the ‘migrant caravan’ in Tijuana with “Jewish families” fleeing Nazi atrocities during the Second World War.
