The House of Representatives voted on Thursday to censure Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green for his repeated interruptions and outbursts at the joint session of Congress this week.
Green was ultimately removed from the chamber Tuesday night.
In a 224-198 vote, the lower chamber censured Green, 77, formally denouncing him for a breach of decorum during the marquee address.
Swing-district Reps. Laura Gillen (D-N.Y.), Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) were among the Democrats who voted for the measure.
The others were moderates from safer districts: Reps. Ami Bera (D-Calif.), Ed Case (D-Hawaii), Jim Costa (D-Calif.), Jim Himes (D-Conn.), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.) and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.).
Green is now the 28th lawmaker to have been censured in US history.
“I heard the speaker when he said that I should cease, I did not, and I did not with intentionality. It was not done out of a burst of emotion,” Green admitted before the House vote. “I was emotional about it, but I did it with intentionality.”

🚨 MORE should happen to Rep. Al Green than just being censured by the House
He must be REMOVED from the Homeland Security and Financial Services Committees
He clearly can’t control himself, and Americans can’t trust him to be on these important committees.
This crap must END.… pic.twitter.com/G6TUO1UD36

President Trump reacted to Green’s censure, calling him a “fool and a clown.”
“Nobody takes him seriously,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “He is an embarrassment to Congress but a much bigger embarrassment to the Democrats.”
