Vice President JD Vance claimed Monday that the United States and Iran have already signed a peace agreement ending their three-and-a-half-month-long conflict, even before a formal signing ceremony scheduled later this week in Switzerland.
Speaking on ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” Vance said the agreement had been signed “digitally” ahead of Friday’s planned diplomatic event.
It remains unclear whether Vance was referring to the final agreement itself or to a preliminary memorandum of understanding or framework deal.

President Donald Trump previously suggested the strait would formally reopen Friday, though shipping traffic appeared to resume Monday morning.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
The president is expected to discuss logistics surrounding the demining and reopening of the strategic waterway during meetings with leaders at the upcoming G7 Summit in France.
Vance spent much of Monday defending another controversial aspect of the reported agreement: a proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.
The Vice President confirmed the fund could become available if Tehran fulfills obligations to dismantle its nuclear program, though he stressed that no American taxpayer dollars would be involved.
“That’s the sort of thing they could have access to, funded by the [Gulf Cooperation Council], so long as they honor their end of the obligation,” Vance said during an interview on CBS Mornings.
“We absolutely are open to the [GCC] countries investing in the reconstruction of Iran only if Iran ends their nuclear program.”

Vance repeatedly emphasized that any financial relief would come only after Iran met strict benchmarks regarding uranium enrichment and nuclear dismantlement.
“Not a single dollar of American money will go to Iran,” he said on “Good Morning America.”
