Suspected Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock purchased more than 30 guns prior to his rampage that left 58 people dead and hundreds injured in Las Vegas on Sunday, and had at least 12 weapons in his hotel room at the time of the shooting, reports Fox News.
According to sources close to the investigation, Paddock’s hotel cache included multiple, fully-automatic AR-15 style assault rifles with high-capacity magazines; suggesting the suspect had cleared legal hurdles and background checks by the FBI and ATF.
The source told Fox that there were between 11 and 15 guns in the hotel room as SWAT teams stormed the location.
Other weapons on the scene included .308 and .223 caliber long guns.
Paddock used the deadly automatic weapons to rain down bullets on the Route 91 Harvest Festival from the 32nd floor window of his Mandalay Bay Resort hotel room; dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as law enforcement breached the room.
His motives behind the deadly assault are still unknown.
Over 20,000 people were attending the festival at the time of the shooting, as country star Jason Aldean was performing his final song of the evening.
At least 58 people are dead and over 500 are seriously injured.
