Fragile diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the Middle East suffered a major setback Monday after Iran announced it was suspending communications with the United States through mediators and threatened to expand pressure across some of the world’s most important shipping routes.
The move came in response to Israeli strikes on Beirut that Iranian officials argue violated ceasefire understandings tied to broader regional negotiations.
In a statement published by the IRGC-linked Tasnim News Agency, Tehran signaled that ongoing indirect discussions with Washington would be halted indefinitely.
“In light of the ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon and given that Lebanon was part of the ceasefire preconditions, and now this ceasefire has been violated on all fronts, including Lebanon, the Iranian negotiating team is suspending discussions and exchanges of texts through intermediaries,” the outlet wrote.
The announcement disrupts weeks of behind-the-scenes diplomacy aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, reducing tensions in the Gulf and laying the groundwork for more formal negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian officials argued that conditions for continued dialogue no longer exist unless Israel halts military operations in both Lebanon and Gaza.
Hannity’s Highlights
Iran cut off indirect communications with the U.S. through mediators — the move came in direct response to Israeli strikes on Beirut and throws the diplomatic track into uncertainty.
The suspension puts two critical goals at risk — efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart formal peace negotiations are now stalled with no clear path back to the table.
Iranian-linked media set conditions for resuming talks — demanding a full halt to Israeli military operations in both Lebanon and Gaza before any negotiations can restart.
Tehran escalated its threats to include two major global shipping chokepoints — warnings involving both the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait sent fresh tremors through energy markets and international shipping lanes.
“The immediate halt to the aggressive and brutal operations of the Zionist regime’s army in Gaza and Lebanon, and the necessity of the regime’s complete withdrawal from the occupied areas in Lebanon, have been emphasized by Iranian officials and negotiators,” the statement said.
The rhetoric escalated further when Iranian-linked sources threatened additional economic and military pressure against Israel and its allies.
According to Tasnim, Iranian officials and allied groups are now discussing broader action involving strategic waterways that serve as critical arteries for global trade and energy markets.
“The Resistance Front and Iran have resolved to pursue the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the activation of other fronts, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, as part of their agenda to punish the Zionists and their supporters.”

NEW: Iran has suspended all diplomatic communication and messages with the United States, according to Iranian state media. The decision was reportedly due to Iranian opposition to the Israeli strikes against Hezbollah.
