U.S. forces carried out a deadly strike on a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Caribbean on March 25, killing four alleged narco-terrorists, according to U.S. Southern Command.
“On March 25, at the direction of SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by designated terrorist organizations,” the command said in a statement posted to X.
“Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,” the statement continued.
“Four male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed.”
The strike marks the latest escalation in the Pentagon’s expanding campaign against transnational drug networks operating across key maritime corridors in the Western Hemisphere.
Officials say the effort — dubbed Operation Southern Spear — is designed to apply sustained pressure on cartel-linked trafficking routes that move narcotics from South America toward the United States.
SOUTHCOM said it is now “applying total systemic friction on the cartels,” signaling a more aggressive posture that blends intelligence, surveillance, and direct military action.
Wednesday’s strike brings the reported death toll from the maritime campaign to roughly 163 individuals since operations began in early September.
The campaign initially launched in the Caribbean Sea on Sept. 2 before expanding into the eastern Pacific Ocean in October, reflecting the geographic breadth of trafficking networks and the U.S. military’s widening operational footprint.
Since then, U.S. forces have carried out more than 45 strikes targeting suspected cartel vessels and trafficking infrastructure across the region.
