Critics on social media accused CNN of pushing “pro-Iran regime propaganda” Thursday after a report from inside Iran suggested daily life appeared relatively normal despite the ongoing war.
During a televised segment, CNN senior international correspondent Frederik Pleitgen reported that stores remained stocked and residents did not appear to be panicking in the streets.
“All the shelves in shops are stocked, even with fresh things,” Pleitgen said during the broadcast while holding a cup of coffee.
“Fuel seems readily available and you just don’t see any degree of panic anywhere,” he added.
The remarks quickly drew criticism from allies of President Donald Trump, who argued the report downplayed the impact of the U.S.–Israeli military campaign against Iran.
One Trump ally accused the network of acting as a mouthpiece for the Iranian government.
“CNN appears to now be doing straight up pro-Iran regime propaganda because someone gave this guy a coffee…” the critic wrote on X.
The dispute highlights the increasingly bitter battle between the Trump administration and major media outlets over coverage of the war with Iran, as the conflict continues to dominate international headlines and political debate in Washington.
