While speaking to reporters on the White House lawn Tuesday morning, President Trump was asked about potential layoffs triggered by the Democrats’ government shutdown.
Trump says, unfortunately, “we may do a lot.”
“As you know, [Democrats] want to be able to take care of people who come into our country illegally,” Trump said. “No system can handle that — so we’re totally opposed on that. I’d love to do everybody, I’d love to do the whole world. But our country can’t handle people who come into our country illegally.”
Trump said Democrats “lost an election in a landslide, and they don’t change.”
