Comedian Tim Dillon joined Hannity Thursday night to discuss his new Netflix comedy special and offer his take on the current state of comedy — and the Democratic Party.
“I think people now just want to hear things that are amusing and challenging, and they don’t want to run away from these debates — I think they’re important to have,” Dillon said. “I think the Democratic Party got away from being the working-class party, and now they’re the party of very coddled college kids and very wealthy people who have the luxury of getting offended at a joke.”
Hannity agreed with Dillon, calling Democrats the party of coastal elites.
“I want comedians like you to have the freedom to say whatever the hell you want,” Hannity said. “When I watch Chappelle or I watch Chris Rock and certain other comedians, they say what they want and I laugh because they’re funny.”
“I don’t think you have to agree with a comic. I don’t think you have to think the comic is right,” Dillon added. “I think you just have to think it’s funny and maybe thought-provoking. And that’s what we all try to do. When you look around at certain things in our society, you have to laugh at them — they’re absurd! And if you behave in an absurd manner, people have to criticize you.”
Tim Dillon’s comedy special I’m Your Mother is currently on Netflix.
