FLORIDA STATE SHOOTING: Shooter Opens Fire on FSU Campus, One Suspect in Custody: Developing

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.17.25

According to a New York Post report, a suspect is in custody and multiple people have been hospitalized after an active shooter was reported at Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus Thursday, law enforcement sources and officials said.

From The New York Post:

The school’s emergency alert system blasted out a warning urging students to seek shelter after a gunman was reported near the campus’ Student Union area just after noon.

A police source told The Post that one person has since been taken into custody.

At least four people were being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, a spokesperson told WCTV. The extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately known.

“At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share,” the message read.

“However, we want to assure the community that our teams are fully mobilized and prepared to provide the highest level of care and support to all those affected.”

Footage on social media showed crowds of students fleeing through traffic as sirens blasted in the background after the gunshots broke out.

Other clips showed scores of ambulances, fire trucks and patrol vehicles from multiple law enforcement agencies, including SWAT teams, swarming the campus.

“Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions,” the initial alert said.

A senior Florida law enforcement source told Fox News that at least one person was in custody, but could not confirm if the individual was a shooter. Additionally, the FBI’s Jacksonville field office and Tallahassee resident agency office are on the scene.

“My team and I are monitoring reports of an active shooter on FSU’s campus. It’s too early to understand the extent of the violence, but early reports are very disturbing,” Rep. Neal Dunn, R-Fla., wrote on X. Florida State University is in Dunn’s district. “Follow all local guidance. Shelter in place. Stay safe. Thank you to our brave first responders for responding to the situation.”
