Well…how did it go?!
Rock & Roll legend Kid Rock stopped by Fox & Friends Tuesday morning to provide a little insight on Monday’s White House meetup between late-night host and comedian Bill Maher and President Trump.
Rock said it left everyone’s minds “blown.”
“Everyone was so surprised, so pleasant,” Rock recalled.
“The most shocking thing to me was, Bill’s obviously a very big liberal, been very hard on the president, but he’s donated a lot of money to other politicians – Biden, Clinton, Obama – [yet] he had never been to the White House, and the president was so gracious.”
From Fox News:
The “Born Free” singer orchestrated the get-together, which saw President Donald Trumpdine with him, Maher and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) CEO Dana White.
Kid Rock said Trump took the group up to the private residence, where they saw the Gettysburg Address in the Lincoln Bedroom and chatted about their commonalities like “ending wokeness” and “securing the border.”
“I was like, ‘How about this? President Trump extending this olive branch…’” he continued.
“The president was asking him what he thought about policy going on with Iran and Israel and things. It just blew my mind. I was very proud.”
Kid Rock said he “one hundred percent” believes Maher walked away from the meeting with a newfound appreciation for Trump’s personality.
“Everybody’s mind was kind of blown… everyone was a little suspect about going into this,” Kid Rock shared.
“We’re just trying to show people that, even though we’ve been pretty hard on each other, that when you get face to face, maybe we can have a little more civility in this country and try to bring people together. That was my whole intention.”
Trump initially expressed skepticism about the meetup, posting the following on TRUTH Social:
I got a call from a very good guy, and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher, a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP. I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting. The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc., very much like the Democrats at my recent Address to the Joint Session of Congress, where I stated, correctly, that no matter what I said or did, they wouldn’t stand, they wouldn’t applaud, they wouldn’t smile or laugh and, certainly, they wouldn’t be in any way “nice.” Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong? In any event, I’m doing a favor for a friend. I look forward to meeting with Bill Maher, Kid Rock and, I believe, even the Legendary Dana White will be present. It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!
If Rock’s recounting is true, it sounds like it went better than expected.
