This is what draining the swamp looks like.
According to a New York Post report, senior Trump officials have requested heads of agencies to deliver “large-scale” firing plans by March 13th.
This includes firing “underperforming employees,” closing wasteful offices, and not renewing contracts.
The order was revealed in a memo on Wednesday.
From The New York Post:
The memo, sent jointly by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Office of Personnel Management (OPM), tells agency heads to work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to make cuts to the “bloated, corrupt federal government” by making it more efficient.
The memo comes after DOGE overseer Elon Musk threatened twice to fire government employees who didn’t respond to an email asking for five things they did in the last week.
“Pursuant to the President’s direction, agencies should focus on the maximum elimination of functions that are not statutorily mandated while driving the highest-quality, most efficient delivery of their statutorily-required functions,” the memo reads.
The document includes suggestions that agencies eliminate duplicate management layers, reduce “non-critical jobs,” implement automation of simple tasks, and reduce the use of outside consultants.
The agencies are then directed to present future organizational plans by April 14, which will be implemented on Sept. 30 ahead of the start of fiscal year 2026.
During Trump’s first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, DOGE head Elon Musk warned that if budget cuts aren’t made, America will go bankrupt.
“I consider myself humble tech support,” Musk told Trump’s Cabinet members. “It is not optional to balance this budget, is it essential. I’m receiving a lot of death threats, I could stack them up. I believe we can actually find a trillion dollars in savings. That can only be done with the support of everyone in this room.”
“DOGE is a support function for the agencies and departments and find 15% reduction in fraud, abuse, and waste. We are bringing the receipts. Go to (doge dot gov) and see them. We will also make mistakes, and we will correct them immediately.”
