California Governor Gavin Newsom spoke with reporters on his state’s efforts to fight the Coronavirus over the weekend; pledging more support for small businesses hiring undocumented workers and illegal immigrants.
“Other advocates have been asking you for more relief for undocumented workers, can you clarify on that front?” asked one reporter.
“I’m very proud of the work that we’ve done together last year… We’ll continue to do more. We have very specific processes on every proposal we advance publicly. We always consider those that are documented, those that are undocumented,” said Newsom.
“Just yesterday, I announced the work we’re doing to support small businesses… There are thousands of small businesses… including those without documentation in the state of California,” he added.

GAVIN NEWSOM: ‘I’d Be Lying to Say That Trump Hasn’t Been Responsive to Our Needs, He Has’
California Governor Gavin Newsom publicly praised President Trump’s handling of the Coronavirus crisis this week; saying the White House has been “responsive to his needs” as his state struggles to contain the contagion.
“Let me just be candid with you. I’d be lying to you to say that [Trump] hasn’t been responsive to our needs. He has. And so, as a question, as a sort of an offer of objectivity, I have to acknowledge that publicly.”
“Every time I’ve called the President he’s quickly gotten on the line. When I’ve asked for support, he was able to direct that,” he added.
