Iran’s joint military command announced Monday it was halting offensive operations against Israel after President Donald Trump publicly urged both sides to stop firing following the largest escalation between the longtime enemies in more than two months.
The Iranian military warned that any further “aggression and hostile acts” by Israel or its allies — including operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon — would trigger “much more severe and crushing measures than before.”
The announcement came hours after Iran launched three waves of missiles toward Israel while Israeli forces carried out strikes targeting truck-mounted surface-to-air missile launchers and petrochemical facilities deep inside Iran.
“Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social in his first public comments since the latest exchange erupted.
Despite the barrage, there were no immediate reports of casualties from either side in what marked the heaviest round of fighting since the April 8 cease-fire between the United States and Iran.
Trump later followed up with another message insisting both sides were “looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!”
“Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” Trump wrote. “The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly.”

The president gave no indication the United States planned to resume direct military operations against Tehran following the attacks.
Last week, Trump told The New York Post’s “Pod Force One” that it was “unlikely” the blockade on Iranian ports would still be active by Labor Day if negotiations continued progressing.
