President Trump just put a major condition on a proposed civil nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia: Join the Abraham Accords or the deal does not happen.
Trump announced Thursday that any U.S.-Saudi nuclear pact would be approved only if Riyadh formally enters the normalization framework that became a signature foreign-policy achievement of his first administration.
The president also ruled out allowing Saudi Arabia to enrich nuclear material under the proposed agreement, stressing that the cooperation would be limited to peaceful, non-military purposes.
“The Civil Nuclear Deal (There will be no enrichment of material!) being made between the United States Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia, which pertains only to non-military use such as the ones that Iran and UAE (and others) already have, will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“The United States is not opposed to Civil (Non-Enriched) Nuclear Facilities. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Trump’s declaration turns the nuclear negotiations into leverage for a much larger diplomatic prize.
Under the terms described by the president, Saudi Arabia would not receive an unconditional green light. Approval would depend on the kingdom joining the Abraham Accords, while the prohibition on enrichment would place another firm boundary around the arrangement.
That distinction matters because nuclear enrichment has been one of the most sensitive questions surrounding civilian atomic programs. Trump’s public formulation attempts to remove that concern by limiting the proposed Saudi program to non-enriched, non-military applications.

The announcement also makes clear that Trump sees American energy cooperation as a bargaining chip. Saudi Arabia may want access to U.S. nuclear expertise, but the president wants a diplomatic return capable of reshaping relations across the Middle East.
