Outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Thursday declassified a new batch of documents that she says shed light on the U.S. government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the origins of the virus.
According to Gabbard’s office, the records reveal communications showing how Dr. Anthony Fauci allegedly played a central role in directing federal funding connected to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and influenced intelligence assessments related to the pandemic’s origins.
The documents, Gabbard said, demonstrate that intelligence officials frequently deferred to Fauci’s recommendations and conclusions during key debates over the source of COVID-19.
Her office argued that the evidence further supports the conclusion that the Wuhan laboratory was the most likely origin of the virus that sparked the global pandemic.
“The COVID-19 pandemic caused tremendous hardship and pain for millions of our fellow Americans and for countless people around the world,” Gabbard said in a statement.
“After years of lies, censorship, and cover-ups, the American people deserve transparency, truth, and accountability.”
Gabbard also accused Fauci and other government officials of concealing critical information from the public while protecting themselves from scrutiny.
“The tactics used to hide the truth are straight from the deep state playbook: politicized self-serving leaders like Dr. Fauci covered up their own wrongdoing and abuses of power, manipulated intelligence, lied to Congress, and undermined a duly elected President by restricting his access to vital facts,” she said.
