Former President Joe Biden found himself at the center of another viral moment Thursday after appearing to be left alone on stage following the grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

Video from the event showed former President Barack Obama leaving the stage to music and applause as the ceremony concluded. Former first lady Jill Biden also exited with a smile while Biden remained standing by himself.

The 46th president lingered on stage for several moments as others departed, waving to the crowd before appearing uncertain about where to go next.

At one point, Biden walked back toward the podium, removed his sunglasses and scanned the audience.

“Where’s my granddaughter?” he could be heard shouting from the stage.

The former president then appeared to begin making his way toward an exit before footage of the moment ended.

The clip quickly spread across social media, where critics pointed to it as another awkward public appearance for Biden following his departure from office earlier this year.

Biden, 83, has maintained a relatively low public profile since leaving the White House. Thursday’s ceremony marked one of his most prominent public appearances in recent months.

The event itself was a celebration of the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, a long-awaited project dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Obama administration and promoting civic engagement.

The ceremony drew a bipartisan collection of political heavyweights, including former President Bill Clinton, former President George W. Bush, and their spouses.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris was also in attendance.

While organizers focused on celebrating the opening of the center, it was Biden’s brief solo moment on stage that generated much of the online attention following the event.
