WINDY CITY BROKE: Mayor Says Chicago Projecting $700 MILLION Deficit, Tax Hikes ‘On the Table’

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.10.20

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot told residents the city is projecting a $700 million budget deficit this year as businesses struggle to survive during the Coronavirus shutdown.

“With tax revenue plummeting due to most Chicago businesses being closed for nearly three months, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city is facing an estimated $700 million budget deficit this year alone,” reports CBS Chicago.

“That’s a sobering number, and it presents a sobering challenge any way you look at it,” Lightfoot said Tuesday.

“Nothing about this moment that we are in is ordinary or easy, and that’s been true since COVID-19 came to Chicago,” she said. “As we move forward we will continue to be guided by our values of equity, inclusion, and transparency in everything that we do, whatever challenges we face.”

“In this reality, the last thing that I want to do is raise property taxes. Now, I can’t take that off the table, but it is truly the last thing that I want to do,” she said.

ALCOHOL CURFEW: Chicago Mayor Imposes Curfew for Liquor Stores After Spike in Violence

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.09.20

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is imposing a liquor store curfew across her city Thursday evening after late-night violence distracted police officers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“After Tuesday night’s violence that left seven people dead and 14 injured, and the inability for some to follow the stay at home order, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has placed a 9:00 p.m. liquor purchasing curfew starting Thursday,” reports CBS Chicago.

“Effective April 9, we are placing a 9:00 pm curfew on liquor sales in Chicago. A liquor curfew will remain in place during Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order,” Lightfoot said.

“These actions place additional and unnecessary burden on our hospitals and ICU units. Violence of any kind is never acceptable but the fact that this is especially urgent now as our ability to protect all Chicagoans is being stretched to the breaking point. We cannot allow that to happen and we will not allow that to happen,” Lightfoot added.

BREAKING: Chicago Mayor Fires City's Top Cop, Cites ‘Ethical Lapses’ and ‘Dishonesty’

posted by Hannity Staff - 12.02.19

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot abruptly fired the city’s police superintendent Monday; citing “ethical lapses” and “intentional dishonesty” regarding an incident that occurred last October.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was fired Monday a few weeks before his planned retirement — the stunning early dismissal by Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued alongside a stinging rebuke of the city’s former top cop that cited his ‘ethical lapses’ and ‘intentionally dishonest’ answers regarding a controversial October incident,” reports Fox News.

“The ignominious end to Johnson’s tenure comes a few weeks after he announced plans to retire at the end of the year. His decision to leave the job came amid intense scrutiny of an Oct. 17 encounter in which police officers reportedly found Johnson asleep in his car at a stop sign. Lightfoot later said Johnson confessed to her he had ‘a couple of drinks with dinner’ before getting behind the wheel that night, and the incident was still being investigated as of Monday,” adds Fox.

“Upon a thorough review of the materials of the Inspector General’s ongoing investigation, it has become clear that Mr. Johnson engaged in a series of ethical lapses that are intolerable,” Lightfoot said in a biting statement Monday. “Mr. Johnson was intentionally dishonest with me and communicated a narrative replete with false statements regarding material aspects of the incident that happened in the early morning hours of October 17.”
