WHITE OUTS & BLACK OUTS: Blizzard ’26 Slams East Coast, 500K Without Electricity

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.23.26

Blizzard warnings are blanketing major East Coast hubs, including New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston — putting more than 40 million people under alerts.

It marks the first blizzard warning for New York City since 2017.

Forecasters warn of widespread snowfall totals between 12 and 24 inches along the I-95 corridor. Snowfall rates are at times reaching 2 to 3 inches per hour.

Conditions are turning dangerous as wind gusts of 50 to 75 mph create whiteouts and near-zero visibility.

New York City has enacted a citywide travel ban until noon today, closing streets, highways, and bridges to non-emergency traffic. Similar bans or restrictions are in place in Rhode Island and New Jersey.

Air travel has been severely disrupted, with more than 10,000 flights canceled through Tuesday. Major hubs — including LaGuardia — are seeing cancellation rates above 97% for Monday.

The heavy, wet snow combined with strong winds is triggering widespread power outages, leaving more than 500,000 customers without electricity.

Governors in seven states have declared states of emergency and are urging residents to stay home until conditions improve.
