'WE STILL BELIEVE': Savannah Guthrie Pleads for Mom's Return as FBI Recovers Glove with Unknown Male DNA

FBI says recovered glove matches suspect seen on doorbell camera; DNA profile of unknown male now heading to national database

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie — mother of NBC’s Savannah Guthrie — entered its third week on Sunday with a major forensic development. The FBI confirmed that a glove recovered near the Tucson, Arizona home matches the pair worn by a masked suspect captured on doorbell camera footage the morning she vanished on February 1st. That glove carries the DNA profile of an unknown male, and the bureau is now racing to run it through CODIS, the national DNA database.

President Trump escalated the stakes Monday, telling the New York Post he would direct the Justice Department to seek the death penalty against anyone responsible if Nancy Guthrie is not returned alive. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional video on Instagram marking two weeks since her mother’s disappearance, saying she still has hope and appealing directly to the kidnappers that it’s “never too late to do the right thing.”

Investigators executed a search warrant Friday at a home roughly two miles from the Guthrie residence, detaining and later releasing three individuals. Authorities have not revealed what was found, though retired police lieutenant Randy Sutton told Fox News that surveillance warrants — including wiretaps — could still be in play. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Office have pushed back on a local media report claiming the case is a “burglary gone wrong,” with a law enforcement source telling Fox News that theory is not the working assumption inside the investigative unit.

New details about the suspect’s gear are also emerging. CBS News reports the suspect’s clothing and ski mask were all purchased at Walmart, where the Ozark Trail backpack seen in the footage is also sold. Investigators are working to identify specific brands. The FBI’s reward stands at $100,000, and the suspect is described as a male between 5’9″ and 5’10” with an average build.
