The Dallas Salon Owner who was jailed for 7 days for violating the state’s ‘Stay at Home’ order told a judge this week that “feeding my kids is not selfish.”
“I have much respect for this court and laws… I have never been in this position before. It’s not someplace that I want to be. But I have to disagree with you when you say that I’m selfish. Feeding my kids is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry,” said Shelley Luther.
The judge told Shelley Luther she
could avoid jail time if she apologized, admitted she was wrong, and agreed to close her hair salon until it was allowed to open. This is her response…

Her business, SALON A LA MODE offers services for hair and nails, microblading, permanent makeup, professional event makeup, braiding and more! Shelley and her team will likely face legal action, fines, and more during her journey back to freedom. She is doing what everyone else is only talking about, in a patriotic move to take back her liberty!” writes the website.

A Dallas salon owner will spend at least seven days in a local prison for defying the state’s shutdown order for personal care and grooming services during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“In addition, Shelley Luther was fined $7,000 for continuing to operate her business, Salon à la Mode, in violation of a judge’s temporary restraining order issued against the business. Luther was taken into custody immediately after the hearing and booked into the Dallas County jail just after 4:30 p.m.,” reports the Dallas News.
“Like other businesses deemed nonessential, Luther’s Far North Dallas salon was forced to close March 22 after the county enacted its stay-at-home order. She reopened the salon April 24 despite that order, and tore up a cease-and-desist letter from County Judge Clay Jenkins at a demonstration the next day,” adds the website.
“I couldn’t feed my family, and my stylists couldn’t feed their families,” Luther told the court. “If you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision, but I am not going to shut the salon.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed President Trump’s decision to halt immigration into the United States Tuesday; calling the move a “diversion” during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“I think it’s another diversion. The agencies don’t even know what it is. No one knows what it is. Yesterday we were talking about WHO. The President needs to stop these diversions,” said Schumer.

Schumer accused his Republican colleagues of “helping bigger businesses” on social media this week; saying Democrats are fighting for “nail salons and delis” during the Coronavirus outbreak.
“Senate Democrats are fighting for the nail salons, the barbershops, the delis. Why are Senator McConnell and Republicans only trying to help bigger businesses that already have connections to bigger banks?” posted Schumer on social media.

Failed presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren faced a growing backlash on social media Friday after urging President Trump to release $75 million in aid to Palestinians while Americans struggle to pay their bills.
“Providing $5M in aid to Palestinians is not enough. The Trump administration is still sitting on $75M in Congressionally directed aid while COVID-19 weakens already fragile health systems in the West Bank & Gaza. Last month I demanded this aid be released,” posted Warren on social media.
