Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and AG Keith Ellison are testifying on Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight over allegations that federal funds were misused or poorly overseen in Minnesota social-service programs.
The hearing, titled “Oversight of Fraud and Misuse of Federal Funds in Minnesota: Part II,” focuses on claims that billions of taxpayer dollars may have been lost to fraud tied to programs funded by Washington.
Republican lawmakers, led by Committee Chairman James Comer, say Minnesota officials ignored warnings about fraud and failed to stop payments to suspicious providers.
“Today’s hearing is about a failure of leadership,” Comer said in his opening remarks, accusing the Walz administration of presiding over “one of the most extensive breakdowns of oversight this committee has ever examined.”
