Fox News host Sean Hannity sat down with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy at a Steak n’ Shake in Florida this week to discuss vaccines, food transparency, bird flu, and more.

Hannity and RFK Jr. spoke about the recent cases of measles in Texas.

“It used to be, when I were a kid, that everybody got measles. And the measles gave you lifetime protection against measles infection,” Kennedy said. “The vaccine doesn’t do that. The vaccine is effective for some people for life, but for many people it wanes.”

“It does not appear to provide maternal immunity; it used to be that very young kids were protected by breast milk,” he said of the MMR vaccine. “Women who get vaccinated do not provide that level of immunity that the natural measles infection did. So you’re now seeing measles hit very very young kids and hitting older people within whom the vaccine has waned.”

Kennedy also addressed the avian flu outbreak.

“All of my agencies advise against vaccination of birds, because if you vaccinate with a leaky vaccine, in other words a vaccine that does not provide sterilizing immunity, that does not absolutely protect against the disease, you turn those flocks into mutation factories,” the HHS secretary said in the interview, which aired Tuesday.

“It’s much more likely to jump to animals if you do that,” Kennedy argued. “It’s dangerous for human beings to vaccinate the birds.”

Hannity and RFK Jr. also joked about President Trump’s fondness for McDonald’s, KFC, pizza, and Diet Coke, which prompted Hannity to ask Kennedy if he has an issue with sugary drinks or diet sodas.

“Yes,” the secretary said.

Hannity asked, “But, again, you’re not going to ban it.”

“I’m not going to take them away from people, but we shouldn’t be subsidizing them,” Kennedy said. “We shouldn’t, as you said, 10 percent of food stamps, which are federally funded, taxpayer-funded program … is going to the poorest neighborhoods.”
