A Senate hearing Wednesday is set to reignite one of the most explosive and politically charged debates of the pandemic era: whether the U.S. government helped suppress the truth about the origins of COVID-19.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is expected to hear testimony from an unnamed longtime CIA employee who alleges there was a coordinated effort inside the intelligence community and broader federal government to conceal or manipulate findings related to the virus’s origins.
The hearing is being spearheaded by Rand Paul, who has spent years aggressively scrutinizing the government’s pandemic response and repeatedly clashing with former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci over gain-of-function research, lab leak allegations, and federal transparency.
