Scarborough weighs in…

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday called for Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones to drop out of the race after leaked texts showed the Democrat fantasizing about assassinating a GOP lawmaker.

“He should probably be forced to drop out of the race,” Scarborough said on Morning Joe, addressing the scandal that has roiled Virginia politics.

Jones’ resurfaced 2022 texts showed him wishing death on former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children, drawing bipartisan outrage.

Scarborough’s comments quickly caught fire online, with conservatives saying even MSNBC’s reaction signaled Democrats had gone too far.

“You know it’s serious when you’ve lost MSNBC,” the Republican Attorneys General Association posted on X.

Commentator Erick Erickson added, “Joe Scarborough has been pushing Democrats on crime and this sort of stuff. He’s a pretty big indicator that the Democrats have gone too far left and they might want to pay attention.”

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet echoed that sentiment: “Even MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough calls for Democrat Jay Jones to withdraw from the Virginia AG race… Good for him.”

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin also renewed his call for Jones to drop out of the state attorney general race, following the resurfacing of the 2022 texts.

“This is beyond disqualifying,” Youngkin said on Fox & Friends. “The Democrats have to come together and figure out where their moral compass is, because they don’t have one right now… this is a ticket allowing someone to stay on who wants children to die, and I can’t believe Virginians for a second will allow this to happen.”
