Red Sox legend David Ortiz survived a brutal assassination attempt in the Dominican Republic this week, with local authorities saying the plot involved an $8,000 bounty, two cars, one motorcycle, and more than six men.
“While the motive behind the attempted murder remains a mystery, investigators now believe the conspirators met earlier that night regarding a $7,800 bounty that was placed on the former Boston Red Sox slugger’s head,” reports Fox News.
The ambush occurred Sunday night at a restaurant in Santo Domingo.
“Ortiz, affectionately known as Big Papi, was shot inside the Dial Lounge and Bar. Witnesses captured at least one man, beat him and waited until police arrived to scoop him up to jail. Two other suspects were arrested Tuesday, police said,” adds Fox.
“In one of the videos it was possible to observe both the accused and the shooter planning the commission of the incident,” prosecutors said.
According to eye witnesses, a lone shooter jumped off his motorcycle, walked-up to Ortiz, and opened fire “without saying a word.” The man was chased by onlookers and fled while holding the firearm.
“Rolfy Ferrera Cruz, who was identified as the alleged gunman, Joel Rodriguez Cruz, Reynaldo Rodriguez Valenzuela, Acosta, Vasquez and Garcia were all arrested in connection with the Ortiz shooting. Garcia was charged Tuesday with being an accomplice to the murder,” reports Fox.

THE BAD APPLE: De Blasio's Team Physically REMOVES REPORTER After Tough Questions
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s security detail physically removed a credentialed journalist Sunday; booting the reporter after he pressed the Big Apple leader about his administration’s deep ties to various lobbying groups.
According to the New York Post, De Blasio was preparing to launch the city’s annual Dominican Day Parade in Manhattan when he was asked to comment on a recent story that slammed the Mayor’s extensive financial relationships with outside organizations.

“Instead of answering or even declining to answer the question, the mayor watched as two members of his NYPD security detail approached the reporter — who was wearing a police-issued press pass around his neck — with one grabbing his shoulder and leading him away from the mayor,” writes the Post.
“Both bodyguards then escorted the reporter about a half-block away,” adds the author.

According to the Washington Examiner, 158 million migrants listed the Untied States as their top destination, followed by Canada with 47 million, Germany with 42 million, and France or Australia with 36 million.
“Although the image of U.S. leadership took a beating between 2016 and 2017, the U.S. continues to be the most desired destination country for potential migrants,” said the survey.
The poll also found approximately “half” the populations of the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Honduras hope to eventually leave their countries of origin.
The top of the list was Sierra Leone, where over 71% of the population said they had a “desire to migrate.”
