Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi vowed to block President Trump’s State of the Union address Wednesday; saying she won’t “authorize” the speech until both parties end the partial government shutdown.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that Democrats will not authorize President Donald Trump to give his State of the Union in the House chamber until the partial government shutdown ends,” writes CNBC.
“The House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the president’s State of the Union address in the House chamber until government has opened,” writes Pelosi.
The President released his own letter Wednesday; vowing to hold his annual State of the Union address “on time” and “on location.”

UNION CONFUSION: White House Plans to Go Ahead with State of the Union Despite Pelosi
The White House is reportedly planning to hold the annual State of the Union address as previously planned; ignoring Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s insistence the speech be delayed due to the ongoing government shutdown.
“The White House is still planning to move ahead with next week’s scheduled State of the Union address, but the details remain up in the air after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi strongly urged the president to delay the speech or submit it in writing amid the government shutdown fight,” writes Fox News.
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless the government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to Congress on January 29,” Pelosi wrote in a letter last week.
“We are still in a holding pattern,” one senior source said.

HANNITY: Pelosi’s ‘Intercontinental Trip’ Shows She’s Not Serious About Gov Shutdown
Speaking during his opening monologue on ‘Hannity’ Thursday night, Sean slammed Speaker Pelosi’s “postponed” international trip in the midst of a partial government shutdown; saying the liberal leader was playing petty political games.
“In the middle of a partial government shutdown, Speaker Nancy Pelosi was all set to leave on a military plane, on your dime, and embark on a seven-day excursion with other Democratic members of Congress,” said Hannity.
“That’s until President Trump pulled the plug… Keep in mind this letter comes 24-hours after Speaker Pelosi called for the State of the Union to be canceled. She was perfectly happy to take a government-funded intercontinental trip instead of staying in Washington, DC and doing her job,” he added.
