According to a Fox News report, President Donald Trump declared Thursday that the United States is negotiating with Iran from a “position of pure strength,” arguing the regime was forced back to the bargaining table after recent U.S. military strikes.
“We knocked the hell out of them, and now we’re negotiating from a position of pure strength,” Trump said during a dinner with American farmers in the White House Rose Garden. “Pure strength. They know that.”
The president said Iran is eager to reach an agreement with the United States and again insisted his administration will not allow Tehran to obtain a nuclear weapon.
“They want to make a deal with us very badly,” Trump said. “They will not have a nuclear weapon. And they’ve agreed to that.”
The president also sought to reassure global markets by declaring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, despite months of regional tensions and repeated concerns that Iran could disrupt one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes.
Trump also revived a proposal aimed at benefiting American agriculture, saying Iran could become a major customer for U.S. farm products if a final agreement is reached.
