Is Trump finally fed up with Vlad?
President Trump on Tuesday dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent praise and gestures as empty talk, accusing him of continuing a brutal war while pretending to seek peace.
“A lot of people are dying and it should end,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting. “We get a lot of bulls— thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth. He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”
Putin, 72, has spent recent months offering praise for Trump and attempting to win favor through personal gestures, including commissioning a portrait of the former president by a well-known Russian artist. He even told Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, that he rushed to church to pray for Trump following last year’s assassination attempt.
But Trump made clear he wasn’t moved by the gestures, not while the war in Ukraine continues with no sign of slowing.
“The Ukrainians were brave but I will say we gave them the best equipment ever made,” said the president, reiterating his intention to re-arm Kyiv.
“The Ukrainians, whether you think it’s unfair we gave all that money or not, they were very brave.”
President Trump has made ending the war in Ukraine a top foreign policy priority for his second term. While Ukraine has repeatedly signaled its willingness to agree to a ceasefire, Russia continues to reject any pause in the fighting.
“They had the benefit of unbelievable equipment,” Trump emphasized. “We gave them far more because Biden shouldn’t have done that … We should’ve given less than Europe.”
