TRUE DIRECTIVES: McConaughey Pleads for 'Family Values, American Values, and Responsible Gun Ownership'

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.07.22

Actor and native Texan Matthew McConaughey made an impassioned plea at the White House on Tuesday for reforms to gun ownership laws in the wake of the tragedy in his hometown of Uvalde, Texas. He says it shouldn’t be a partisan issue and that legislators have failed to act.

“We know what’s on the table… We need to invest in mental healthcare, we need safer schools, we need restrained media coverage, we need to restore our family values, we need to restore our American values, we need responsible gun ownership.”

“We need background checks,” he said. “We need to raise the minimum age to purchase an AR-15 rifle to 21. We need a waiting period for those rifles. We need red flag laws and consequences for those who abuse them.”

“We are in a window of opportunity right now that we have not been in before. A window where it seems like real change, real change can happen,” he said.

From Fox News…

He recalled learning “responsible gun ownership” while growing up in the small south Texas town, roughly 80 miles outside of Austin.

After hearing of the mass devastation in his hometown, McConaughey said he “drove home and hugged my children a bit longer and tighter than the night before.” He, along with wife Camila Alves and their three kids, drove to Uvalde the following morning.

“Even from the inside of our vehicle, you could feel the shock in the town,” he said.
