TRIGGER MAN: Alec Baldwin Will Face Criminal Charges for Involuntary Manslaughter in 'Rust' Shooting

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Alec Baldwin will face criminal charges of involuntary manslaughter for the accidental shooting —and killing — of 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust in 2021.

From The WSJ:

Prosecutors plan to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico in 2021, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation.

The film’s armorer overseeing weapons, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, is also expected to be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the incident, according to the person.

The film’s first assistant director, David Halls, has agreed to plead guilty to the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, according to the person.

Santa Fe-area District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies plans to announce the charges Thursday morning, the person said, and the charges are expected to be filed by the end of the month.

Baldwin has repeatedly denied pulling the trigger.

“I didn’t pull the trigger … I would never point a gun at anyone and then pull the trigger, never,” he told ABC News. But prosecutors on the case think they’ve caught Baldwin in a lie, citing “photos and videos clearly show[ing] Baldwin, multiple times, with his finger inside the trigger guard and on the trigger” leading up to the deadly shooting.

Additionally, “Baldwin approached responding deputies on the day of the shooting, wanting to talk to them because he was the one who ‘fired’ the gun,” prosecutors added.

According to FBI analysis, there’s no way the gun could “accidentally fire.”
