President Trump wants America to stop touching the clocks.
The president is throwing his weight behind a bipartisan push to make daylight saving time permanent, cheering a House committee vote that moved the proposal one step closer to the floor.
The Sunshine Protection Act was folded into the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act of 2026, which the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced Thursday in a 48-1 vote.
“Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent!” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
Trump argued the twice-a-year clock change wastes time and money for families, cities and states.
“It’s time that people can stop worrying about the ‘Clock,’ not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production,” he wrote.
The president also framed the issue as a political layup for Republicans.
“It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it!” Trump declared.

The proposal is led in the House by Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., whose office said the Sunshine Protection Act was included in an amendment to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act before being sent to the House floor.
The measure has 32 bipartisan House cosponsors, while Senate companion legislation introduced by Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., has bipartisan backing as well.
The bill would make daylight saving time the year-round national standard, though it would not force states that do not observe daylight saving time to begin doing so.
