A new letter tied to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie was sent to TMZ this week, including a demand for one bitcoin in exchange for information about the identity of the person allegedly responsible for abducting Today host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, the outlet reported.
TMZ reported that the requested payment — about $66,000 at current prices — would be exchanged for the “name of the individual involved.”
TMZ founder Harvey Levin discussed the letter during an appearance on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, saying the note included a bitcoin address that TMZ confirmed is active, while stressing the outlet does not know whether the demand is legitimate.
“They said they want one Bitcoin sent to a Bitcoin address that we have confirmed is active. It’s a real Bitcoin address, and as they put it, time is more than relevant,” Levin said. “So we have no idea whether this is real or not. But they are making a demand.”
The letter is the third such message reported publicly in the case since Nancy Guthrie was last seen around Jan. 31–Feb. 1, with investigators warning that unverified communications could be hoaxes and urging anyone with credible tips to contact law enforcement.
