Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti confirmed Thursday that his administration will allocate $250 million from the budget to be used on “jobs, health, education, and healing “ within minority communities in his city.
“We have all said we have to do something different. I have committed that our city identify $250 million in cuts so we can invest in jobs, in health, in education, and in healing. Those dollars need to be focused on our black community here in Los Angeles,” said Garcetti.
“Will this involve cuts? Yes, of course. To every department, including the police department. Because we all have to be a part of the solution together,” he added.

“Most of the day we had large crowds throughout the city in multiple boroughs [on Sunday]. But when it got dark, things changed and it changed rapidly,” Shea said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning. “We anticipated it, but you saw large groups of people had no inclination to all this protest once it got dark, particularly in the area of SoHo between Canal and West Broadway. We had a number of stores broken into.”
