Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called for the FBI to investigate whether Judge Brett Kavanaugh made untruthful statements before the Senate Judiciary Committee over the weekend; saying “lying to Congress is a federal crime.”
The Democratic socialist posted a series of allegations Saturday demanding federal investigators probe whether Kavanaugh was telling the truth regarding his drinking history, his willingness to take a polygraph examination, and the accuracy of his calendars.
The FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh must include a review of his numerous untruthful statements in his previous testimony before Congress. Lying to Congress is a federal crime.

In 2006 Kavanaugh told Congress he didn't know anything about the NSA warrantless wiretapping program prior to it being reported by the NYT. This year an email revealed that while at the White House he might have been involved in some conversations about this program. (3/x)

BREAKING NOW: Senate Republicans Agree to ‘One Week Delay,' FBI Probe into Kavanaugh
Republican leadership in the Senate agreed Friday to a “one week delay” to give the FBI time to investigate allegations of sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh dating back to the early 1980s.
The request -initiated by Sen. Jeff Flake- urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay the full Senate vote just hours after Dr. Christine Ford and Judge Kavanaugh appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“There’s going to be a supplemental FBI background investigation” Majority Whip Sen. John Cornyn confirmed Friday.
The President signaled a willingness to allow GOP leadership to reschedule the vote earlier Friday after Flake’s announcement, saying “I’m going to rely on all of the people including Senator Grassley, who’s doing a very good job.”
