After 41 days of gridlock, President Donald Trump said Monday he will honor the terms of the bipartisan deal to reopen the government, while Republicans move ahead with a new plan to replace the expiring health-care subsidies that triggered the standoff.

“The government will fully reopen very quickly,” Trump said, as grounded flights and closed agencies crippled operations across the country.

“I’ll abide by the deal. The deal is very good,” he told reporters in the Oval Office, when asked about a provision forcing him to re-hire federal workers terminated during the shutdown.

The agreement guarantees Democrats an open vote on whether to extend pandemic-era Affordable Care Act subsidies, set to expire December 31.

But Trump issued a warning on Obamacare.

“We want a health care system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies,” he said. “We’re talking about trillions and trillions of dollars — where the people get the money.”

Insiders say there’s enough GOP support in the House to extend the current subsidies, but it’s unclear whether the Senate can reach the 60-vote threshold needed to make it law.
