Rumblings about AOC’s future…
According to an Axios report, Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her team are currently deciding what’s next for AOC: U.S. Senate or the White House.
A Senate bid by Ocasio-Cortez, 35, would set up a generational showdown between the Democratic Party’s longest-serving traditional leader, Chuck Schumer, and its star progressive insurgent.
This year, Ocasio-Cortez has campaigned across the country and in parts of New York far beyond her Bronx and Queens district, while investing millions to expand her already formidable online presence. She has also recruited former senior advisers to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to strengthen her political operation.
Ocasio-Cortez has not made a decision about her future, but her team is working to give her options. Over the summer, she held a series of town halls in Upstate New York that could help lay the groundwork for a statewide campaign.
At one stop in Plattsburgh, she told supporters: “Plattsburgh, we are here because every town, every city, every neighborhood in this state matters. Every corner matters. No one deserves to be ignored.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s office declined to comment. A spokesperson for Schumer did not respond to a request for comment.
