An attack ad meant to sink Spencer Pratt may have done the exact opposite.
A union-backed political spot targeting the Republican Los Angeles mayoral candidate is blowing up online after critics argued the ad accidentally framed Pratt’s positions in ways that could resonate with frustrated voters instead of turning them away.
The ad, which has circulated widely across X in recent days, attacks Pratt over homelessness policy, policing, and public-sector unions while urging Angelenos to reject his candidacy.
“Republican Spencer Pratt is the last thing Los Angeles needs for mayor,” the narrator warns in the ad.
The video goes on to criticize Pratt for opposing taxpayer-funded housing construction for homeless residents, supporting a major expansion of police staffing, and arguing public employee unions wield too much power.
“Pratt opposes using taxpayer money to build brand new houses for unhoused neighbors, saying it’s time for the homeless to get help or get out,” the ad states.
“Pratt thinks L.A. needs thousands more police officers rather than more social workers,” it continues, before insisting, “LA is on the right track and needs to stay the course.”
Online reaction quickly turned brutal for Pratt’s opponents, with many users mocking the ad for appearing wildly disconnected from voter frustration over homelessness, crime, and quality-of-life concerns in Los Angeles.
One X user wrote, “This is supposed to be an attack ad??? Lolol.”
Another joked, “Wow even @UnrigLA is running ads supporting Spencer Pratt. This is such an incredible ad supporting Spencer Pratt!!!”
Even Sen. Ted Cruz weighed in, amplifying the ad while writing, “This attack ad could well elect Pratt.”
