SHOTS FOR TOTS: FDA Advisers Recommend Moderna's COVID Vaccine for Children Under 5

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.15.22

According to a report from The Hill, FDA advisors have unanimously agreed to recommend emergency use authorization of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to 5 years of age.

From The Hill

An advisory panel for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will meet this weekend to issue its own recommendation. If the panel votes in the affirmative and the CDC director signs off, children could start to get vaccinated next week.

Moderna’s two-dose mRNA vaccine is intended to be administered four weeks apart, and is one quarter the strength of an adult dose.

The FDA previously said the vaccines are safe and effective, though the vaccine did not perform very well in preventing symptomatic disease, mainly against the omicron variant.

This story is developing…

Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) are pressing the FDA for “data on medical necessity and a risk analysis” before the nationwide rollout.

“Our federal health agencies are rushing to approve COVID vaccines for children under 5. FDA should provide data on medical necessity and a risk analysis of vaccines for these children.”
